Boomboxes Recalled Due To Fire Hazard
Units Can Overheat

WASHINGTON -- Coby Electronics has recalled about 13,800 boomboxes, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.Officials said the boomboxes can overheat and cause a fire if they are left plugged into an electrical outlet and are not completely turned off.Coby Electronics has received 18 reports of such overheating incidents. The company also has received three reports of minor property damage but no injuries, according to a news release.
The recalled boombox, which has the model number MP-CD475, is a white and silver portable CD/MP3 player with an AM/FM radio, a news release said. The word "COBY" is displayed on the front. The recalled units have serial numbers in the following range limits: 0736000001 through 0736005000, 0816000001 through 0816005300 and 0826000001 through 0826003500.The units were sold at discount stores and at toy and office supply stores from August 2006 through December 2006, the news release said.
