UPDATED: 8:02 pm CDT September 13, 2006

Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall Jr. was in town on Wednesday to help in the fight against diabetes.

Hall was in town to support Kady's Walk, which is a fundraiser by Fenwick High School in Oak Park. Hall himself was diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago.

"Despite being told by two doctors that my swimming career was over, I went on to compete in the last two (Olympic) games, winning six additional Olympic medals," Hall said.

NBC5 General Manager Larry Wert, who is a Fenwick alumnus was also on hand to lend support. The annual Kady's Walk event has raised about $170,000 since it began six years ago.
