Gold-Medal Winning Swimmer Helping Local Effort To Fight Diabetes

CHICAGO -- Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall Jr. was in town on Wednesday to help in the fight against diabetes.Hall was in town to support Kady's Walk, which is a fundraiser by Fenwick High School in Oak Park. Hall himself was diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago."Despite being told by two doctors that my swimming career was over, I went on to compete in the last two (Olympic) games, winning six additional Olympic medals," Hall said.
NBC5 General Manager Larry Wert, who is a Fenwick alumnus was also on hand to lend support. The annual Kady's Walk event has raised about $170,000 since it began six years ago.
