CHICAGO -- Chicago emergency officials said Tuesday that they are changing the way the city uses its sirens. The city will now use the sirens as a hazard warning system, NBC5 reported. The sirens could mean anything from a tornado or chemical or biological hazards -- even a terrorist attack."As we've learned in this post-[Sept. 11] era, things can be unpredictable and we want a system that can warn the public to immediately tune into media outlets," said Ron Huberman, executive director of the city's emergency management and communications office.
The sirens are tested the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m.
