Teen Shot Outside Rainbow Push Headquarters

A teenage boy was shot Friday the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH headquarters and right around the corner from President Barack Obama's Chicago home.

Police say the 17-year-old was walking in the 4900 block of South Drexel Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. when someone fired shots from a minivan, hitting the teen in the back.

The teen, who police say is a "documented gang member," was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

A town hall meeting was under way at Rainbow PUSH when the shooting occurred, and Jackson ran outside to find him lying on the ground.

"What hurt me so much was to see the man shot, apparently by a drive-by," Jackson said. "So many people die when they get shot because there's no trauma center for nine square miles."
