Crews Battle Extra-Alarm Blaze In Franklin Park

FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. -- More than 15 ambulances and numerous fire units remain on the scene of an extra-alarm fire Thursday night in an industrial complex in west suburban Franklin Park.Emergency crews responded about 7:30 p.m. Thursday to a fire at 2900 Commerce St., according to Melrose Park Fire Dept. Capt. James Karabatsos.A HazMat response was called for the four-alarm fire, and additional ambulances were requested about 8 p.m., Karabatsos said.At least 15 ambulances remain at the scene as of 9:30 p.m., according to Karabatsos, who said Schiller Park, River Grove, Beverly, Brookfield, Maywood and Chicago fire departments were among the many fire departments assisting.
According to fire dispatch reports, five different buildings were fully involved in the fire, and the building that was originally on fire at 2900 Commerce St. has been completely destroyed.Pak America Fabricating, a metal fabrication company, is listed at the address, according to a Web directory. There have been no reports of injuries, according to Karabatsos, who was citing preliminary information.
