One Man Shot, Another Captured Following Home Invasion

CHICAGO -- One man is hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another is in police custody after police interrupted a home invasion in west suburban Franklin Park on Tuesday morning.
About 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, police received a 911 call of a home invasion in progress in the 2500 block of Nona Street, according to a release from Franklin Park police. Officers arrived to find the offenders scuffling with a woman.As the two suspects fled, they fired shots at two responding officers, who returned fire, striking one of the suspects in the head, according to police. The other suspect was captured. Neither officer was injured.Arrested were Gustavo Martinez, 26, and Gerardo Vargas, 30, police said. Martinez is in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, and "doing well," according to police.
The homeowner, a woman who was alone at the time, was not injured, police said, Her children were in school and her husband not home at the time of the invasion.Illinois State Police are investigating the police-involved shooting while the Cook County State's Attorney and Franklin Park police investigate the home invasion.
