BLUE ISLAND, Ill. -- A Midlothian police officer was among three people hurt in a crash overnight in Blue Island.The crash happened in front of a gas station near 127th Street and Kedzie Avenue.Both cars involved suffered major damage.
Two Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash
Two people, a 21-year-old woman and a 24-year old man, died and two others remain in critical condition Sunday following a single-vehicle crash in the Medical Village neighborhood.An EMS Plan 1 was called for the crash at 1926 W. Harrison St. about 3:40 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Assistant Director Eve Rodriguez. An EMS Plan 1 automatically sends to the scene five ambulances, two fire trucks, two engines, a battalion chief and an EMS field officer.The vehicle slammed into a traffic light pole, according to police News Affairs Officer Marcel Bright.Two people were initially taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and two others were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Rodriguez said.Maricela Fuentes died at Stroger Hospital about 4 a.m. and Jose Martinez-Fuentes died at Mt. Sinai Hospital at an unknown time, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.One male is still in critical condition at Stroger Hospital and another male is in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. He was still undergoing surgery at 8:45 a.m., Bright said.Both people still hospitalized are adults, Rodriguez said.The vehicle appears to be a silver compact car that crashed into a light pole, according to a witness. The car crashed into the light pole on the southwest corner of Harrison Street and Ogden Avenue, the witness said.The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit are probing the accident.Copyright 2008 by NBC5.com.
