Police Warn North Siders Of Attempted Abduction
12-Year-Old Approached By Man In North Center Neighborhood

CHICAGO -- Police are alerting residents of the North Center neighborhood on the North Side of the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl Friday.About 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 8, the girl was walking to school on the 1400 block of West Montrose Avenue when she was approached by a man, according to a community alert from Belmont Area detectives. The man attempted to engage the girl in conversation, but she refused to talk to him. The man then asked the girl if she wanted to go home with him and she ran to school and reported the incident.The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and approximately 120 pounds, according to the alert. He had very short, dark brown hair; was wearing blue jeans and a short black jacket, and had crooked and overlapping teeth, the alert said.
Residents are advised to be aware of suspicious people in the area.Whenever possible, children should walk with a friend or guardian. Anyone with information should call Belmont Area Special Victims Unit detectives at 312-744-8200.
