Several Actors, All Nominated Directors To Attend

The ongoing writers' strike isn't preventing several Oscar nominees from celebrating together at least once.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that 11 nominees will be at the annual Oscars Nominees Luncheon Monday in Beverly Hills, Calif.

According to the Academy, George Clooney, Viggo Mortensen, Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard, Laura Linney and Ellen Page are expected to attend from the lead acting categories, and Ruby Dee, Amy Ryan, Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem and Hal Holbrook will be on-hand from the supporting acting categories.

More than 100 other nominees are expected to attend in addition to the acting nominees, including all of the Best Director nominees: Paul Thomas Anderson, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, Tony Gilroy, Jason Reitman and Julian Schnabel.

In addition, all 13 of the nominated writers will be present, including Anderson and the Coen brothers along with fellow nominees Brad Bird, Jim Capobianco, Diablo Cody, Tony Gilroy, Christopher Hampton, Ronald Harwood, Tamara Jenkins, Nancy Oliver, Jan Pinkava and Sarah Polley, the Academy said.

Strike or not, the Academy said the Oscars show will go on Feb. 24. Academy president Sid Ganis said last week that a contingency plan is in place if the strike is not settled by the date, which would involve film clips and out-of-the-ordinary concepts.

To date the Academy has not been granted a waiver by the WGA to allow writers to work on the scheduled telecast of the celebration, which will be aired on ABC.

The Screen Actors Guild of America recently directed its membership not to cross picket lines for the Golden Globes, which forced organizers to dump its traditional ceremony and announce the winners at a news conference.

In all likelihood the WGA will picket the Oscars if the strike is not settled, almost guaranteeing once again that SAG would dictate to its guild members not to attend the ceremony.
