Man Charged With Having Meth Lab In Apartment

CROWN POINT, Ind -- A Crown Point man has been charged with having a methamphetamine lab in his apartment, the Lake County Prosecutor’s office announced Tuesday.Brian Welsh, 31, was charged Monday in Lake Superior Court with having the materials for an illegal methamphetamine lab, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance, according to a Lake County Prosecutor’s office release.Lake County Drug Task Force members raided a residence at the 700 block of East South St., on Feb. 15. Police initially responded to assist the Crown Point Fire Rescue crew with a report of an odor in the South Street residence. While investigating one officer was overcome by a strong odor, giving him a headache and causing his eyes to burn, the probable cause affidavit states.
Police found materials used to manufacture meth inside the Welsh’s apartment including drain cleaner, coffee filters along with empty cans of ether and hydrogen peroxide, the affidavit said.Welsh told police he was making the highly addictive drug for his own personal use, the probable cause affidavit states.The 31-year-old man faces from six months to three years on each of the felony charges.-- STNGWire and Post-Tribune
