NBC5, along with CVS Pharmacy, the Chicago Sun-Times
and the 2006 Chicago Auto Show are proud to present
"Smart Choices, Safe Kids."
Smart Choices, Safe Kids is an NBC5 initiative in partnership with Child Lures Prevention Program Creator Ken Wooden. It's purpose is to educate children and their parents about ways to protect kids from abuse, assault or abduction.
On Sept. 17 NBC5's Allison Rosati will hosted a one-hour town hall meeting, featuring Wooden, Gov. Rod Blagojevich and first lady Patti Blagojevich, law enforcement officials, teachers and families. During the show, Wooden demonstrated the most commonly used lures by predators to abduct kids. You can watch a rebroadcast of that meeting on Oct. 2 at 11:30 a.m.
On Sept. 19, NBC5 began showing special segments in the 6 p.m. news that focused on each of the lures, showing kids how to recognize them and providing vital, potentially life-saving information. The segments will run for two weeks.
This statewide program will also be introduced in hundreds of schools across the state of Illinois and parent guides will be distributed at 528 auto dealerships and 71 CVS pharmacies.
