LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Police said after chasing a vehicle through the streets of downtown Longview, Wash., they discovered the driver was a 13-year-old girl.Police said the teen now faces felony eluding charges among other things, reported KPTV-TV in Beaverton, Ore.Officers said they believe she's a runaway from Bellingham, Wash.
Police said the girl led them on a chase that went for at least three miles and finally ended in a parking lot.The chase ended when the car she was driving jumped a curb and crashed into a fence, police said. The chase began at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Oregon Way in Longview, police said.Police said they noticed a car driving all over the road, and when they attempted to stop the car, the driver sped off.Police said they chased the car several miles through town, with speeds at one point reaching more than 70 mph.Police said the car ran red lights and went the wrong way down one-way streets before finally ending up in the parking lot of a shopping mall. The car sped across the parking lot, jumping curbs, before hitting a fence, police said. When the vehicle came to a rest, three people jumped out of the car and began running away, including the 13-year-old driver, a 14-year-old boy -- who may also be a runaway -- and a 24-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants from the Bellingham area, police said. They said they finally caught and arrested all three. The 13-year-old driver was sent to juvenile custody. One Longview mother said if it was her daughter, she knows exactly what she would do."You know some parents would just bail her out. I'd just let her sit in there for a while. That might seem a little cruel, but you mess up, you pay the price," said Dawn, who lives in Longview.Police said they believe this same group was involved in a high-speed chase in the Bellingham area, so they said additional charges could be filed.
